LUNEBURG GERMANY.

Lower Saxony.

I was talking to a fellow tourist whilst in Schwerin Germany, and he suggested i should visit Luneburg.
This i did and glad i did. I knew the name , Luneburg, but nothing about it. It is beautiful German town in Lower Saxony. The population is around 77,000. The town is on the River Limenau.-------------I arrived by train from Berlin, taking about 2 and half hours.
I stayed one night in a cosy hotel for Bed and Breakfast. So i had the afternoon and evening to explore Luneburg. The wide main street,
Am Sande,is pretty, with plenty of cafes and pubs. Down by the Old harbour is the Thread Wheel Crane.
The Crane is first mentioned in 1330. It is 15m high and could hoist 9 tons .Used mainly to transport Salt, which was mined in Luneburg. --I took a tour of the Wasserturm [ water Tower ] to the top for the view of the town. St. Johns the Baptist church is from the 14th century and built of red brick it is said that the tower is 2.2 m off centre, because of salt mining subsidance. Luneburg is 50km { 31 miles] from Hamburg.img=https://photos.travellerspoint.com/935071/368e00f0-a0cc-11ea-a6b8-4b5a29dc66b5.jpg caption=LUNEBURG GERMANY.
